Virtuosity Exhibition

In this major project, we were supposed to organize a public group exhibition - from beginning to end on our own. The segregation of tasks was very equal and we all participated when it was possible, but my particular task was scouting the locations and distributing leaflets. In this particular post, I will focus on the works I prepared. More on the exhibition itself can be found on our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/CASTUoB/

As a concept for my project, I wanted to transform some of my old photos using different materials and techniques. By concealing the original photos behind ‘flashy’ materials I wanted to depict that I feel ashamed for my dependence on photography.

Here I used golden heat-transfer foil on a black paper. I created the design by converting photos into a vector image.

For this portion, I used a laser cutter on MDF boards for the smaller pieces and plywood for the large one. Surprisingly enough, the large one grabbed the most attention.

As the additional ‘attraction’ I wanted 3D printed lithophanes - again, based on my photos - to make a framed light-box. Unfortunately, right before the exhibition opened the frame (containing LED lights) fell off the wall and broke. I affixed the panel onto a sun-facing window, but by the time the private view started, the sun has set and the piece has been largely ignored.
